A mosque in Yuba, California that was nearly complete is burned to the ground in an arson attack. Under construction for nearly three years, the loss is estimated to be about $900,000.
Local media and political leaders condemn the arson attack, but national media almost completely ignores the incident, just as other attacks on mosques are generally ignored.
The Islamic Circle of North America writes a report that says:
"The national media, which is fueling anti-Muslim sentiment, completely ignored the burning of this beautiful masjid. ...
Unfortunately the California governor Pete Wilson, who sits only 50 miles away in Sacramento, was conspicuously silent. Not a message of support, regret, dismay at the seriousness of the attack or the importance of a swift arrest. Not a word on the victimization of this peaceful Muslim community."
