In four towns in Britain, bombs are planted outside bookstores owned by Penguin, the publisher of Salman Rushdie's controversial novel The Satanic Verses. Only one, in York, actually goes off.

No group will claim responsibility for the bombs, but there is clearly a connection to the Rushdie book which Muslim groups have been complaining about.

Salman Rushdie has been in hiding since February 14 when the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini issued a fatwa against him, calling in Muslims everywhere to execute him for his blasphemy.
