In Maine, State Supreme Court Justice Robert B. Williamson dismisses a petition asking for a ban on Bible reading in public schools.

The petition was filed last month by a group of Boothbay Harbor residents led by Frank C. Hughes, an atheist and retired municipal judge from Glendive, Montana.

According to Hughes, prayer and Bible reading in public schools represent an attempt to undermine the Constitution. In rejecting the petition, Justice Williamson says that he doesn't have the jurisdiction necessary to consider it.
