Over 33,000 Jews are murdered by the Nazis at Babi Yar, near Kiev, in retaliation for arson and bomb attacks made against buildings used by the German military over the past couple of days.

The decision to kill all Jews in Kiev as a response to this is made jointly by representatives from the military, the SS, the police, and Einsatzgruppe C. Einsatzkommando 6, which is part of Einsatzgruppe C, is commanded by Ernst Szymanowski (who calls himself Ernst Biberstein after 1941), a pastor with the Evangelical-Lutheran church.

Thousands more will be killed here in the following months and according to a Soviet investigation, approximately 100,000 people total are murdered here — Jews, prisoners of war, and Gypsies.
