Bishop Michael Rackl: War on Russia is a Crusade or Holy War

Bishop Michael Rackl of Eichstätt

Bishop Michael Rackl of Eichstätt publishes a pastoral letter in which he declares that the unprovoked war launched by Nazi Germany against the Soviet Union is a "crusade, a holy war for homeland and people, for faith and church, for Christ and His most holy cross."

This attitude is fairly common among the Catholic bishops of Germany. For them, the Soviet Union represents Bolshevism, the great enemy of Christianity and western civilization.
