Bishop Michael Rackl Tells Priests to Avoid Discussing Politics or Criticizing Government

Bishop Michael Rackl of Eichstätt issues pastoral instructions to his priests regarding their conduct under the new war conditions. In effect, he tells them to avoid discussing politics and instead encourage them to sacrifice themselves for the Fatherland.

Bishop Rackl says:

"It is the task of pastoral care to make good in the religion of Jesus Christ the preparedness to bring sacrifices and love to people and homeland. ...

In the interest of the Fatherland and our official position as well as our personal safety we shall exercise the greatest restraint in all conversations involving political, military, and economic matters."
