Nazis Arrest Bishop Theophil Wurm for Not Recognizing Authority of Reichbishop Müller

Bishop Theophil Wurm

Bishop Theophil Wurm of Württemberg is arrested in Germany because he has refused to recognize the authority of Reichbishop Ludwig Müller to remove him from his office.

Müller suspended Wurm a few days ago on charges of misusing church funds, approximately 200,000 Reichsmarks which had been transferred to a special fund.

Bishop Wurm is placed under heavy guard in his home and similar measures are expected to be taken against Bishop Hans Meiser of Bavaria who has also dissented from Müller's leadership.

Reichbishop Müller announces that clergy are expected to get behind the new policies or get out:

"Everyone should be forced into Nazi ranks, even though he does not quite understand National Socialism. And the same should be demanded of pastors."
