Sigmund Freud gives the first of his five lectures on psychoanalysis at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. In this first lecture, Freud discusses the famous case of "Anna O."

He was invited to give these lectures by G. Stanley Hall, president of Clark University and himself a distinguished psychologist. Freud was happy to accept because he is eager to spread his ideas in the English-speaking world.

This is really the first public, popular recognition of Sigmund Freud's ideas and goes a long way towards making him famous in America.
