Karl Christian Friedrich Krause dies of a stroke. A German philosopher, one of his primary interests has been to develop a reconciliation between faith and reason.

Krause hoped that the idea of a God known by faith could be reconciled with the existence of a world known through senses and reason. His conclusion was that God is not a being with a personality, but rather an essence which contains the universe.

This led Krause to develop a system he called panentheism: god exists as distinct from nature, but also interpenetrates every part of nature.
