Hildegard of Bingen, a German nun, mystic, and composer, dies at the age of 81. Responsible for founding the Benedictine convent of Rupertberg (near Bingen) in 1147, Hildegard became famous for her visions, which she recorded in the Scivias (Know the Way), and also for her songs, which are still sung and studied down through the modern age.

By and large her visions have been of a coming disaster brought about by vice in society.
