Pope Conon dies after less than a year as pope. He was already a very elderly man when elected, and he seems to have been one of those popes who was chosen as a "compromise" candidate — someone everyone could agree on because he was too old to do much, effectively giving the electors a break before having to make a more substantive and long-term choice.

Conon's papacy was indeed uneventful, which means he didn't do anything to heal the many rifts that have developed in the church. He didn't cause more damage, but he was also unable to forge any compromises himself.
