The Federal Election Commission imposes a $6,000 fine on Jerry Falwell because he illegally transferred $6.7 million in funds intended for his religious ministry to his various political efforts.

Falwell testified under oath to a Congressional committee that no such transfers were made, but representatives of his Old-Time Gospel Hour and I Love America political action committee signed agreements in May accepting FEC penalties and admitting to the illegal transactions. Jerry Falwell refuses to comment on the announcements and is never charged with perjury.

According to government documents, Falwell's Old-Time Gospel Hour provided $90,000 in credit to the I Love America P.A.C. to help influence federal elections, in part by buying Bibles at a vastly inflated price.
