Mormon War: Anti-Mormon vigilantes attack Mormons in DeWitt, Missouri. Armed men from other counties have come in to help local non-Mormons get rid of the Mormons and have threatened them if they don't leave.
Mormons appeal to Governor Lilburn Boggs for help, but he refuses because he is anti-Mormon as well. When the anti-Mormon forces seal off the town, the Mormons try to hold out in the hope that someone will come to their aid; but the only help that does come is General Parks, head of the Missouri militia.
The attackers ignore his order to disperse, and his own men threaten to join the siege in order to get rid of the Mormons, so he has to withdraw. After ten days the Mormon settlers will have to concede defeat and abandon the town entirely.
