Baldwin II of Constantinople dies in Naples. The last emperor of the Latin Empire of Constantinople, he no longer lives in that city because it was captured by Michael VIII Palaeologus in 1261. That effectively ended Baldwin's reign, but European leaders continued to recognize his claim.

Upon the death of Baldwin II, however, the Latin Empire of Constantinople also ceases to exist.
