Donus is elected pope. Not a great deal is known about Pope Donus, but it is believed that he starts a number of major construction projects around Rome and convinces the archbishop of Ravenna to stop trying to become independent of the authority of Rome.

Pope Donus will die, however, before he is able to accomplish much. In fact, even though he is a relatively young man when elected, he only lasts two years as pope. In contrast, his predecessor Adeodatus II lasted four years as pope and was an old man when elected.
