Representative W. Todd Aiken [R-MO] introduces to the House of Representatives the Pledge Protection Act. The purpose of Aiken's bill is to prevent federal courts from ruling on the constitutionality of the phrase 'under God' in the Pledge of Allegiance.
The final version of this bill says:
"No court created by Act of Congress shall have any jurisdiction, and the Supreme Court shall have no appellate jurisdiction, to hear or decide any question pertaining to the interpretation of, or the validity under the Constitution of, the Pledge of Allegiance, as defined in section 4 of title 4, or its recitation."
This isn't the first or last time that Rep. Aiken has introduced a law for this purpose. Christian conservatives find the presence of the phrase 'under God' in the Pledge of Allegiance to be very important, and while they also insist that it's entire constitutional they don't appear to be very confident about that otherwise they wouldn't be afraid of federal courts taking up the issue.
