The PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization) is created at the first Arab summit meeting, the 1964 Arab League summit in Cairo, for the purpose of the "liberation of Palestine" and the destruction Israel.

The original PLO Charter insists that "Palestine with its boundaries that existed at the time of the British mandate is an integral regional unit" and sets as a goal the prohibition of the "existence and activity" of Zionism.
