Faisal II becomes king of Iraq. He is the third and last king of Iraq and will be killed during the July 14 Revolution with some of his family.

The Iraqi monarchy is in trouble because there is a lot of dissatisfaction with Iraq's social and economic conditions, but that's not apparent to most of those in power right now.

The gap between rich and poor is widening, and because the economic elites control Iraq's parliament, reformers and dissidents don't think that anything short of revolution will be enough to fix the country.
