Odilo Globocnik commits suicide in Austria after being captured by American forces hunting for Nazi war criminals. Globocnik was a key Nazi figure in the Holocaust.

Under Heinrich Himmler's orders, Odilo Globocnik was responsible for liquidating the Warsaw and Bialystok ghettos, constructing the Belzec death camp, and creating the network of work camps in Lublin.

It is believed that he oversaw, and was thus responsible for, the deaths of over 1.5 million Jews from Poland, Hungary, Germany, Austria, Russia, and other European nations.
