Nazis seal off the Lodz ghetto. Hans Biebow, chief administrator for the Nazi government of the Lodz Ghetto, will impose starvation conditions on the Jews living there.

The 164,000 Jews of Lodz, the second-largest city in Poland, are crammed into a tiny area that should accommodate far, far fewer people. Soon more Jews will be brought in, bringing the number to 200,000.
