Hans Meiser, Bishop of the Bavarian Evangelical-Lutheran Church, issues a new loyalty oath for all Protestant pastors in Bavaria that includes swearing personal allegiance to Hitler.

Bishop Meiser's oath reads:

"Pastors in the Bavarian regional church are required as public officials to perform the following oath: 'I swear to God the Almighty and All-knowing: I will be loyal and obedient to the Führer of the Reich and Volk, Adolf Hitler, I will obey the laws, and I will conscientiously fulfill all my official duties, so help me God.' This law is effective immediately."

This loyalty oath is also instituted in those evangelical churches which tend more towards the "Confessing Church" party, usually regarded as those Protestants who are more critical of and resistant to Adolf Hitler. One pastor, Karl Steinbauer, refuses to take the oath and is forbidden from preaching.
