Kurt von Schuschnigg is elected leader of the Fatherland's Front (Vaterländische Front), a right-wing fascist political party in Austria.

The primary ideals of the Vaterländische Front are Austrian nationalism (based on Austrian Catholicism) and Austrian independence (from Germany, specifically).

The Vaterländische Front was founded in 1933 by Engelbert Dollfuss, former Federal Chancellor of Austria and since 1933 the fascist dictator of Austria. He merged his own Christian Social Party (conservative and anti-Semitic), the Heimwehr (paramilitary nationalist group similar to Germany's Freikorps and SA), and other right-wing groups.

The Vaterländische Front never really becomes a mass movement, even after holding a monopoly on political power, and it will be eliminated by the Nazis in the wake of the Austrian Anschluss of 1938.
