Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu adopts the name Teresa when she takes her first religious vows as a nun.

Bojaxhiu had hoped to adopt the name Thérèse de Lisieux, patron saint of missionaries, but opts instead for Teresa because another nun in the same convent already has this name.
