Eugenio Pacelli, the future Pope Pius XII and newly-installed Apostolic Nuncio to Germany, presents his credentials to King Ludwig III of Bavaria.

Currently there are no separate nuncios for Germany or Prussia, so Pacelli is also effectively nuncio to the entire German Empire. Pacelli will talk to the German government about the desire of Pope Benedict XV to put an end to World War I.

These overtures are greeted positively at first, but the German High Command will soon be convinced that they can win the war militarily. As a result, they just keep putting Pacelli off rather than answer him.
