Albert Einstein's General Theory of Relativity is first published. This is a unified description of gravity as a property of space and time.

According to Einstein's General Theory of Relativity, space and time (or spacetime) curve in direct relation to mass, energy, and linear momentum.

Einstein's theory builds upon but differs from Newton's law of gravitation and classical physics. Some of the major differences include time dilation, gravitational lensing, and gravitational redshift — all effects which have been tested for and successfully found, thus confirming the validity of Einstein's General Theory of Relativity.
