German philosopher and mathematician Rudolf Carnap is born in Ronsdorf, Germany. Rudolf Carnap will flee to America in 1935 because of the growing power of the Nazis.

He will become a leading developer of logical positivism and argue that descriptions of reality can only be regarded as meaningful if they are derived from experience. Because of this, he will also argue for eliminating the pursuit of metaphysics as a waste of time.
