King Henry VIII of England marries Jane Seymour, a lady-in-waiting to his first two wives Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn.

Henry had gotten rid of both of his first wives because they had failed to produce a male heir; this produced a schism between England and the Catholic Church which turned into the English Reformation.

Jane Seymour fulfills Henry's hopes for a male heir by giving birth to Edward on 12 October 1537. She then dies of postnatal complications two weeks later.
