Prince Louis Joins Simon de Montfort in Crusade of Southern France

French Prince Louis, the future Louis VIII and son of King Philippe II, joins Simon de Montfort's crusading in southern France. Louis had taken a vow to embark on a Crusade two years prior, and his father has been urging him to fulfill it.

King Philip II Augustus has little authority over the relatively independent lands in southern France, and a successful crusade against the ruling nobles there will greatly expand the power of the French monarchy.
