Frederick I Barbarossa captures the Seljuk capitol city of Iconium (Konya, Turkey, located in central Anatolia).

The Sultanate of Rum had earlier promised Frederick safe passage through Anatolia, but after numerous attacks near his forces he's lost all patience and decides to take out the Sultanate himself.
