Conrad III (first German king of the Hohenstaufen dynasty and uncle of Frederick I Barbarossa, an early leader of the Third Crusade) personally leads German forces into the Second Crusade.

At this time, Conrad III is the most powerful ruler in all of Europe and has left his son, Henry Berengar, in charge of Germany while he is gone. Soon, however, the German army under Conrad III will be destroyed while trying to cross the plains of Anatolia.
