Pope Theodore I dies. Although born in Jerusalem, Theodore I was the first Greek pope. The most important thing Theodore I did during his papacy was fight against the Monothelite heresy.

Pope Theodore I does little to convince church and secular leaders in the East to stop being Monothelites, but his work does cause the opposition in the West to become more firmly entrenched, thus creating deeper divisions between eastern and western Christianity.
