Milltown Cemetery Attack: During the funeral of three Provisional IRA volunteers at Belfast's Milltown Cemetery, Ulster Defence Association (UDA) volunteer Michael Stone attacks the crowd with pistols and grenades. He kills three people and wounds more than sixty.
At first people think the gunfire is a salute for the men being buried (Daniel McCann, Seán Savage and Mairéad Farrell). Michael Stone has joined the funeral in the hopes of getting a chance to kill Sinn Féin leaders Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness. Stone will be sentenced to 682 years in prison, but only serves 13. He'll be released as part of the Good Friday Agreement.
