Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the deposed Shah of Iran travels from Panama to Cairo, accepting an invitation for medical treatment and sanctuary by Egyptian President Anwar Sadat.

The Shah will die at the age of 60 from complications of Waldenström's macroglobulinemia (a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma) on 27 July 1980. He'll be buried in the Al Rifa'i Mosque in Cairo with his brother-in-law, King Farouk of Egypt.
