After 5 hours of debate, the New York State Senate passes a bill (31–26) to repeal the state's 19th century abortion law and allow abortion without any restrictions at all. The current New York State abortion law only permits abortions to save the life of the mother.
The bill will fail to pass the Assembly by three votes.
The bill's sponsor, Constance Cook (R-Ithaca) says:
"We'll bring it up again, and I think it will pass when the absentees are here."
