The Iraqi parliament approves of amendments to the Personal Status Law granting political rights to any woman with a primary school education. Women now get equal inheritances and a right to divorce.

Furthermore, disputes involving divorce, inheritance, and marriage are taken to civil courts instead of religious courts.
