The government of Romania declares that the 43,000 Jews living within its borders are no longer citizens. Romanian anti-Semitism was strong long before the Nazis took over in Germany and under General Ion Antonescu the Romanian government kills more Jews than any government except Nazi Germany.

Ion Antonescu didn't even need orders from the Nazis — working completely independently, he murdered over 400,000 Jews from the Ukraine and Romania. After World War II General Ion Antonescu is executed by the communists but becomes a hero for the nationalists who ignore his roles as an anti-Semitic, genocidal monster.
