Source: Wikipedia

Secretary of State Cordell Hull offers a public statement on the comments of New York Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia about Adolf Hitler. LaGuardia suggested yesterday that perhaps the 1939 New York world fair would include a "chamber of horrors" displaying that "brown-shirted fanatic who is menacing the peace of the world."

Hull expresses regret over "the use of language by any American citizen calculated to offend a friendly power."
