Carl Severing, leader of the Social Democratic Party, is arrested by the Nazis as he attempts to enter the Reichstag. He will be charged with misuse of funds for the purpose of propaganda.
Otto Wels, spokesman for the SPD, tells the crowd:
"Take our liberty, take our lives, but leave us our honor! If you [Nazis] really want social reconstruction you would need no such law as this [The Enabling Act]!"
