American televangelist Pat Robertson is born. Marion Gordon "Pat" Robertson will be founder of the Christian Coalition, Regent University, American Center for Law & Justice (ACLJ), the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), and the 700 Club.

Even though he's a Southern Baptist, his theology will be very charismatic in nature, more akin to that of Pentecostal than traditional Southern Baptism. He will be at the center of numerous political controversies, usually as a result of his desire to push his own religious vision on the public at large.
