Adolf Hitler entrusts Gregor Strasser with the job of spreading the Nazi message in northern Germany and building a Party organization there. Gregor Strasser will prove to be an outstanding success when it comes to political organization, taking the Nazis from a small splinter party in the southern state of Bavaria to a national party with a huge following.
There are only about 27,000 Nazi Party members in 1925 but over 800,000 in 1931 and this is due in large part to the efforts and skills of Gregor Strasser. Unfortunately for Strasser, his vision of National Socialism differs from that of Adolf Hitler. Strasser is more radical and wants to see all economic elites broken up; Hitler, in contrast, is more than willing to allow for the continuation of large capitalist organizations if they continue to support him.
This is a main reason why Gregor Strasser will be killed during the Night of the Long Knives in 1934.
