Mormons hold a second constitutional convention in the quest for statehood. After 10 days, they adopt a state constitution which will be taken to Washington, D.C., for approval.

Resistance to statehood for Utah will be based largely on the issue of polygamy, which more and more is being linked with slavery as barbaric, un-Christian, and un-American.
