The British and Foreign Bible Society is formed because some people have a great deal of difficulty in finding or affording their own Bibles, especially those living in more rural areas. Bible societies will develop as a result of Protestantism's emphasis on personal bible study.

The British and Foreign Bible Society makes every effort to be ecumenical and non-sectarian, avoiding various denominational disagreements in the interest of providing Bibles for everyone.

Unfortunately that isn't always possible because a number of such disputes involve which Bible translations should be used and even which books should be included in the Bible at all.
