Pope Clement VIII dies at the age of 69. The last pope of the Counter-Reformation, Clement recognized Henri IV as king of France, helping secure the peace of the French Wars of Religion - but he also instituted the several year trial against Giordano Bruno.

Pope Clement VIII is forced to accept that Protestant Huguenots in France have religous freedom, but he doesn't accept the existence of Protestantism itself.
