Herbert of Cherbury is born in Eyton, Shropshire. His major philosophical work will be De veritate, prout distinguitur a revelatione, a verisimili, a possibili, et a falso (On Truth, as It Is Distinguished from Revelation, the Probable, the Possible, and the False), the first treatise on metaphysics by an Englishman.

Herbert of Cherbury is more widely known, though, as the "father of English Deism."
