Pope Pius IV is born Giovanni Angelo Medici in Milan. One of the most important actions he will take as pope is to reconvene the Council of Trent on January 18, 1562, which had been suspended ten years earlier.

Once the Council reaches its final decisions in 1563, Pope Pius IV will then work to ensure that its decrees are spread across the Catholic world.
