The Teutonic Knights are reorganized as a military order in a ceremony at Acre in Palestine. Once the Christian Crusaders are completely ejected from the Holy Lands, the Teutonic Knights seek other tasks; in effect, they become mercenaries employed by Christian rulers against non-Christian enemies.

Eventually they focus their efforts on killing or converting pagans to the north of Europe.
