Pope Clement III dies. Well connected with Roman aristocracy, he had been easily elected and that allowed Pope Clement III to cooperate closely with the secular leaders of Rome. Because of him, many rifts between the papacy and Roman citizens were healed.

Pope Clement III also continued the policies of Pope Gregory VIII for launching the Third Crusade.
