Felix III is elected pope. Because of his harsh response to and efforts to suppress the Monophysite heresy that has taken hold in the eastern Church, he will seriously damage relations between Rome and Constantiononople.

Pope Felix III will even go so far as to excommunicate the patriarch of Constantinople, Acacius, for appointing a Monophysite bishop to the see of Antioch to replace an orthodox bishop. Acacius, though, will just ignore Pope Felix III.

Pope Felix III will be rather authoritarian and uncompromising, especially with regards to heresy. He is sometimes quoted as having said:

"Not to oppose error is to approve it; and not to defend truth is to suppress it, and, indeed, to neglect to confound evil men—when we can do it—is no less a sin than to encourage them."
