King Richard I of England Arrives at Tyre for the Third Crusade

Richard I Lionheart, King of England

Richard I, King of England, arrives at Tyre, but Conrad of Montferrat refuses to allow Richard to enter the city. He's not even allowed to drop anchor in the city's harbor. Richard has sided with Conrad's enemy, Guy of Lusignan, over who should be king of Jerusalem and so is made to camp on the beaches.

This infuriates Richard, but as there's nothing he can do about it, he moves on to Acre, his ultimate goal, the next day. The following year, Richard the Lionheart will move his support from Guy to Conrad because he learns that none of the local barons support Guy in any way, and Richard decides that it's best not to oppose them.
