Citizens of Bethlehem plead with Tancred of Bouillon (nephew of Bohemond I) to protect them from the approaching Crusaders who have by this time acquired a reputation for vicious looting of the cities they capture.

Crusaders will take Bethlehem, but without the violence and looting that is associated with their other conquests. They heavily fortify the city in order to use it as a staging area for their upcoming siege of Jerusalem.
